Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

Description:
The POVERTY HEAD COUNT INDEX (α=0) is the share of the population whose consumption is below the poverty line. This is a most widely used poverty index, that is comparably easy to interpret and understand, while other two more indices poverty gap and severity of poverty are used in order to get more comprehensive pictures of poverty. The poverty gap (α=1) is the average distance below the poverty line as a proportion of the poverty line where the mean is taken over the whole population, counting the non-poor as having zero poverty gaps. The severity of poverty (α=2) is the distribution of the consumption among the poor population. However, household consumption has increased, its amount is below poverty line, and poverty headcount and gap do not change, while poverty severity increases.

Calculation method
POVERTY MAPPING METHODOLOGY The different indicators presented in this report are using two different methodologies, one for the monetary poverty indicators and a second one for the non-monetary indicators. 1. MONETARY POVERTY The basic idea behind the methodology is rather straightforward. First, a regression model of per capita expenditure is estimated using HSES survey data, limiting the set of explanatory variables to those, which are common to both that survey and the latest Census. Next, the coefficients from that model are applied to variables defined similarly in the Census data set to predict the expenditure level of every household in the Census. And finally, these predicted household expenditures are used to construct a series of welfare indicators (e.g. poverty level, depth, severity, inequality2) for different geographical subgroups. 2. NON-MONETARY POVERTY Contrary to the monetary poverty indicators which are very complex and time-consuming to compute, the non-monetary indicators are very straightforward to calculate and do not involve any estimation procedure. In most cases we simply take the proportion of individuals having, say electricity, at home.
